In the spring of 2001, golfers from the Los Angeles community led by Arif Peera, came up with a simple idea. Why not organize a Ryder Cup style annual golf event, between KSI golfers from the United States and Canada? The event would be a unique, first of its kind in the community, and would bring together KSI brothers from the two North American countries.

In June the same year, Arif Peera at the the Golden Crescent tournament, presented the idea to Hussein Chagani, one of the Toronto community's most fervent golfers and sponsor of the Habib Cup. Hussein loved the idea so much he asked his son Hassnain to adopt the event and immediately come up with a team of golfers to play in the Inaugural Matches in Los Angeles. A relationship was formed that resulted in five Haider Cup Matches played on some of the best courses, and in the most beautiful cities of North America, including Los Angeles, Toronto, Orlando, and Vancouver. The Haider Cup has also adopted a couple of favored charities, Zainabiya and WIPAHS, which have benefited substantially from the event.

In 2005, after five straight years of fantastic events, the Haider Cup has achieved the status of a tradition. The organizers have committed themselves to improving the event and opening it up to more players because the demand to participate in the event has grown. The main aim after the 6th Haider Cup Matches in Toronto is to formulate and adopt a by-laws that will make the Haider Cup a leader among sporting events, a model to be emulated. The by-laws will ratify and formalize a number of key items that will make the Haider Cup a fair event, and will require every player to have officially sanctioned handicaps.
